As Senior Application Engineer (m/f/d), you will serve as the technical bridge between Maxwell’s product development, engineering, and commercial teams. You will support customers throughout the design, analysis, integration, validation, and deployment of Maxwell energy storage solutions.


You will translate customer application requirements into technical solutions and provide hands-on engineering support throughout the product lifecycle. Working closely with customers, Product Management, R&D, Manufacturing, Sales, and Business Development, you will help ensure the successful adoption of Maxwell technologies while supporting new business opportunities and long-term customer relationships.

The position will be based in our EMEA location in Hanover, Germany.

What you will do

As Senior Application Engineer (m/f/d), your responsibilities will include:

Customer Application Support

  • Serve as the primary technical point of contact for customers during evaluation, design, validation, and production launch phases.
  • Understand customer system requirements and recommend optimal product configurations and application solutions.
  • Perform appropriate calculations for system sizing, power capability, thermal constraints, and related performance parameters.
  • Support customer technical reviews, design discussions, product evaluations, and troubleshooting activities.
  • Develop and deliver technical presentations, application notes, and customer training materials.

Product Integration & Validation

  • Assist customers with the integration of Maxwell products into their systems and applications.
  • Support system-level testing, validation activities, and performance analysis.
  • Analyze test data and provide recommendations for design improvements and optimization.
  • Work cross-functionally to resolve technical issues and customer concerns.

Commercial & Business Development Support

  • Partner with Sales and Business Development teams to support customer engagements and growth opportunities.
  • Participate in customer meetings, trade shows, technical workshops, and industry events.
  • Provide technical input for quotations, proposals, and project assessments.
  • Help identify emerging market trends, customer needs, and competitive technologies.

Product Development Collaboration

  • Communicate customer requirements and market insights to product development teams.
  • Support new product introduction activities and commercialization efforts.
  • Contribute to product roadmap discussions by providing application and customer feedback.
  • Assist in defining product specifications and requirements for future development programs.

Technical Documentation

  • Create and maintain technical documentation including application guides, validation reports, and technical specifications.
  • Develop best practices and design recommendations for customer applications.
  • Support technical knowledge sharing across engineering and commercial organizations.

What makes you a good fit

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or related technical field.
  • 5+ years of engineering experience in energy storage, batteries, ultracapacitors, power electronics, automotive, industrial, or related technologies.
  • Experience supporting technical customers or external stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Fully fluent in German, professional fluency in English.  Proficiency in other European languages is a plus
  • Ability to travel domestically (Europe) and internationally as business needs require.

The following qualifications would be an advantage:

  • Knowledge of data center environments, systems, and hardware
  • Knowledge of automotive, industrial, off-highway, or commercial vehicle markets
  • Experience with system-level validation, testing, and data analysis
  • Experience with the development and application of standards
  • Familiarity with requirements management and product development processes
