The Role:

The Functional Safety Engineer lead and oversee from the technical perspective, the development of Safe solutions for automotive low battery - intelligent systems by providing technical leadership, independent safety oversight, and cross-functional guidance across Systems, Hardware, and Software engineering teams.


What You’ll Do (Impact Areas)

As Functional Safety Engineer, you’ll work in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team and ensure that safety goals, concepts, requirements, analyses, and verification activities are consistently implemented and aligned with project objectives.

Those activities Include

  • Owns and drives system-level Functional Safety engineering for low battery - intelligent systems development projects.
  • Provides technical leadership and independent review of critical safety work products, including HARA, Safety Concepts, Safety Requirements, FMEA, FTA, FMEDA, and related analyses.
  • Guides cross-functional engineering teams in the development and implementation of safety requirements and safety mechanisms.
  • Supports project tailoring, safety assessments, audits, and confirmation reviews to achieve regulatory and customer compliance.
  • Serves as the Functional Safety subject matter expert, resolving complex technical challenges and promoting best practices in safety-critical product development.

  • Provides clear technical guidance and coaching to cross-functional teams.
  • Safety requirements are integrated effectively across Systems, Hardware, and Software development activities.
  • Proactively identifies safety risks, compliance gaps, and technical issues before they impact project milestones.
  • Demonstrates strong ownership and accountability for Functional Safety deliverables and decisions.
  • Effectively communicates safety concepts, risks, and project status to engineering teams, management, customers, and assessors.

Core Competencies

  • Functional Safety Expertise, applying deep knowledge of ISO 26262 through all lifecycle development
  • Safety Analysis & Risk Assessment, able to execute and supervise HARA, FMEA, FMEDA, FTA, DFA, and other analytical methods to identify hazards, evaluate risks, and define effective safety measures.
  • Systems Engineering; understands complex system architectures and interactions across hardware, software, and system
  • Technical leadership and critical thinking; Analyzes complex technical challenges and provides technical direction, guidance, and mentorship towards practical safety-compliant solutions
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration & Communication

What You Bring (Qualifications)

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Functional Safety engineering within the automotive industry.
  • Experience in safety-critical product development, preferably within Battery Management Systems (BMS), energy storage systems, power electronics, or embedded automotive systems.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting projects across the complete ISO 26262 safety lifecycle.
  • Experience working in a Tier-1 supplier and/or OEM environment.
  • Experience with Functional Safety engineering tools such as: Ansys Medini Analyze, Isograph Reliability Workbench, Requirements Management tools (e.g., Jama, DOORS)
  • Familiarity with systems engineering methodologies and model-based development.
  • Basic understanding of cybersecurity concepts and their interaction with Functional Safety.
  • Experience working in global, cross-functional engineering organizations.
  • Certification in functional safety (e.g., TÜV Functional Safety Engineer) is a plus.

Work Model & Travel

Hybrid position based in Monterrey, Mexico, with occasional travel to the United States, Germany, and other locations to support project, customer, and business needs.
