Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Develops and deploys the strategic plan for environmental, health and safety.  Works in conjunction with the EHS Global team to develop and deploy a strategic plan for risk management.

Develops and administers budget for the EH&S department.  Responsible for monitoring cost and maintaining accurate departmental financial forecasts.  Reviews and approves all departmental expenses and invoices.

Establishes appropriate metrics and other process indicators to ensure a safe work environment and attainment of applicable standards.  Metrics meet or exceed company and industry standards and goals.  Participates in the development and tracking of metrics used in the Management Incentive Compensation Program.

Advises organization on regulatory changes and investigates the most major incidents and ensures risks are addressed.

Oversees EHS reporting and documentation to ensure proper execution according to internal and external standards.

Oversees the training of employees on EHS policies, procedures and regulations.

Develops and directs, in partnership with operational leadership, strategic and action plans intended to continuously improve Environmental and Health & Safety performance.

Directs EH&S resources to support Clarios growth strategy and evaluation of site to determine potential hazards, orientation of all new employees, initiation of the EH&S process to include CMS.

Oversees development and deployment of the EH&S audit process.  Directs the audit process, including development of an audit schedule, selection of audit locations, use of qualified consultants, preparation of reports, submittal of action plans and tracking of progress towards deficiency correction.

Directs development and deployment of policies, programs, and procedures relating to all aspects of occupational health, safety, and environmental.  Maintains leading edge solutions to health and safety issues and works closely with operations, human resources, finance, and legal to develop and deploy those solutions, which apply to our business.  Serves as a subject matter expert to other organizations.

Directs performance of core competency training in EH&S across the region.  Establishes occupational health, safety, and environmental training programs.  Serves as a subject matter expert for development of training programs and requirements.

Assesses new developments and regulations in the health, safety and environmental field which may impact company operations, and takes appropriate actions.  Assists line management to understand applicable regulations and standards to include guidance on handling compliance, inspections and citations.

Directs calculation of performance metrics and communication of division goals.  Communication is to senior management, operational leadership for the region.

Develop and maintains a competent and motivated staff of professionals.  Includes coaching, performance measurements and other development opportunities.  Creates succession plans.  Assists with the selection and interview process for Environmental professionals as well as Health and Safety professionals. 

Work diligently with leadership team on setting up sustainability strategic plan and lead for implementation.  Build ESG framework, roadmap and score system.  Collect related cases and data to build ESG risk analysis module

Coordinate and arrange ESG related training needed in the organization and enhance all employees ESG awareness and involvement. 

Responsible for disclosure and maintenance on ESG related data and information in the region

Skills / Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, Business Administration or related field preferred. 
  • Minimum of five years of safety or environmental management experience required. 
  • Be familiar with domestic and overseas ESG related regulations as well as mega trend with proactive management mindset
  • Solid ESG strategy/roadmap experience in decent multinational company is a plus
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) preferred. 
  • Must possess strong verbal, written, analytical, and persuasive skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management. 
  • Must be adaptive to change, committed to matrix management style. 
  • Proven ability to establish and implement goals, strategies and objectives. 
  • Travel required.
